| Description: | St. Clair Productions presents the Andy Statman Trio in concert at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain, Ashland, on Tuesday, March 24, 8 p.m. A portion of the proceed benefit Havurah Shir Hadash. Andy Statman, one of his generations premier mandolinists and clarinetists who has recorded with David Grisman and Itzak Pearlman among many others, thinks of his compositions as "a spontaneous, American-roots form of very personal, prayerful hasidic music, by way of avant-garde jazz." "It has the heart of klezmer music, which Mr. Statman, a clarinet and mandolin virtuoso, is most famous for performing, but its not klezmer. It has the spirit of the border-pushing jazz of the 60s, but its not really jazz either. Its the music of Jewish mystics, but interpreted not as a tradition to be preserved but as a spiritual path to be followed in as personal a manner as possible."
