El Grito at Pioneer Square Annual Celebration Entry is free and the party begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 11 p.m. In addition to folkloric dancers and live mariachi, salsa, cumbia, and pop music, the event will include food and beverages for sale, community booths, vendors, and the Mexican tradition known as El Grito de Independencia.

El Grito y Fiestas Patrias celebrates the independence of Mexico and other Latin American countries from Spain. As Mexican President Lic. Enrique Pea Nieto presents the nation's traditional El Grito in Mexico City, so too will Portland commemorate Mexican independence in the same manner in Pioneer Courthouse Square, with a presentation of the revolutionary cry for independence, El Grito de Independencia, by Consul of Mexico at 9 p.m.
